Postmortem
Successes
We were able to successfully implement all the mechanics. From dashing to wall jumping, it allows players to move in a way that's different from a traditional jump and run. The levels are designed with an emphasis on the player's timing. Some platforms might require a player to double jump and dash correctly in order to get to the other side. The feel of the game from the background to the platforms and obstacles contributes greatly to the final look.
Challenges
The animations took a long time to implement. There were issues with sprites glitching out as well which took time away from implementing other aspects of the game. Collision detection was an issue causing the player to get stuck on the corners of platforms. We ran into a lot of GitHub merge issues from multiple people working on the same scene thus causing us to redo our changes.
What We Learned
We learned how to design levels appropriately that controlled the difficulty levels. Complicated player movements were something new and they needed to be precise. Group work is hard.
Possible Future Revisions
Add a storyline! We had a story mapped out but haven't able to implement the dialogue. Add enemies and allies! Currently, we're trying to escape and the biggest enemy is the lava pits and the player's lack of timing. We'll add more player mechanics such as attacking or different movements (diagonals).
